This beautifully handmade Mixed Media Art Hamsa Hand makes a real statement piece on your wall. Not only does it look the part and bring a real sense of peace to your room, it will also ward off all those evil spirits too.

This Mixed Media Art Hamsa Hand is handmade with mixed media and collage on Khadi, handmade, recycled, cotton paper. It measures 15 x 21cm. The Mixed Media Art Hamsa Hand pictures a hand, palm towards you, fingers facing upwards. The hands have been painted with watercolours and inks and delicately decorated with a colourful array of gemstones, glitter, paint, pen and sparkles to name but a few.

The word Hamsa comes from the Hebrew word hamesh, which means five. Hamsa refers to the fact that there are five fingers on the talisman. Khamsah is an arabic word that means five but also refers to images of ‘the five fingers of the hand’. Depicting the open hand, it is an image recognised and used as a sign of protection in many times throughout history. The Hamsa has been traditionally believed to provide defence against the evil eye. Many people believed that an evil person could lay a curse on them just by looking at them. The Hamsa was therefore a necessary symbol and talisman to have about you or in your house to ward off the evil spirits.
